Get ready, MotoGP fans, because the 2027 season is shaping up to be a seismic shift in the racing world! With a major technical overhaul on the horizon, including engine size changes, aerodynamic restrictions, and a tire supplier switch, the rider market is set to explode with potential moves. This means we could see a completely revamped grid!
The year 2027 marks a significant turning point for MotoGP. The premier class will transition from 1000cc engines to 850cc engines, ban ride-height devices, and reduce aerodynamic elements. Plus, Michelin tires will be replaced by Pirelli.
Currently, only a handful of riders have secured their spots for the 2027 season.
- Johann Zarco is confirmed to be riding for LCR Honda.
- Diogo Moreira is stepping up to the premier class on a multi-year deal starting from 2026, also with LCR Honda.
- Toprak Razgatlioglu will make his MotoGP debut with Pramac Yamaha.
Razgatlioglu, after a season on the V4 M1, will aim to leverage his Pirelli tire knowledge in 2027. He could be joined by his WorldSBK rival, Nicolo Bulega, who has a Ducati MotoGP testing contract and is expected to move to the premier class the following year.
Fermin Aldeguer from Gresini is expected to have his 2027 option picked up by Ducati.
But here's where it gets controversial... all five factory teams are still in the process of signing riders. Reigning champion Marc Marquez's current factory deal ends at the end of next season. Will he commit to leading Ducati into the new era? Could his teammate, Francesco Bagnaia's, 2025 performance influence his decision to explore options with rival manufacturers?
And this is the part most people miss... fellow MotoGP champions Jorge Martin (Aprilia), Joan Mir (Honda), and Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) are also facing critical decisions. Martin attempted to leave Aprilia for Honda but the RS-GP is now the second-best bike behind Ducati. Mir and Honda are gaining momentum, but Quartararo's future with Yamaha hinges on the competitiveness of their 2026 bike.
So far, only KTM has shown a glimpse of its new 850cc engine, and manufacturers agreed not to conduct track testing until the end of the 2025 season. KTM's priority is to retain Pedro Acosta, who has been linked with Ducati and Honda.
