Hong Kong's Historic Medal Haul at the National Games: Gold, Silver, Bronze! (2025)

Hong Kong's athletes are making history at the National Games, surpassing even their own impressive records. On Saturday, Siobhan Haughey claimed her second gold medal within 48 hours, becoming the first Hongkonger to achieve this feat at a single China Games. This brought the city's total medal count to five. But that's not all - Aaron Ho Sze-long's silver in the men's sabre was a groundbreaking achievement, as it marked the first time a Hong Kong fencer has won a medal in that event. Adam Mak Sai-ting further solidified his place in history by winning the bronze in the 200-meter breaststroke, becoming the first Hongkonger to ever win a men's swimming medal at the Games, and setting a new city record of 2 minutes, 9.93 seconds. Oscar Coggins and Kaylin Hsieh Sin-yan also brought home bronze medals in the men's individual race and women's épée, respectively. Hong Kong's athletes have now won medals in six sports, a significant improvement from the four sports they excelled in at the previous Games in Shaanxi. With Sunday's competitions, the city is poised to break its gold medal record, as Cheung Ka-long, the Olympic fencing champion, competes in the men's foil, the men's golf team is close to a victory, and cyclist Ceci Lee Sze-wing returns to the track for the women's Madison event.
